Puzzles that are easy on the eyes

Our puzzles are designed to stay clear and comfortable at an ordinary reading distance.

Large type, everywhere

Not just the puzzle. The words, the buttons, the answers, the emails.

A font designed for clarity

We set everything in Atkinson Hyperlegible, made by the Braille Institute and named after their founder, J. Robert Atkinson. They drew it to be readable for people with low vision, so we use it throughout the site for anyone who wants a clear, easy read.

Proper contrast

Near-black on white. No pale gray on off-white, anywhere, for any reason.

Light gray text is a design habit. We don’t use it.

Our Puzzles

Answers run across, down and diagonally. Tap the first letter and the last, or drag across, whichever your hands prefer.
Large numbers, plenty of space to work with and no time limit.

Play online, or print at home

The same puzzle, either way.

A printed word search page, one large grid filling the sheet.
A word search, printed.
A printed sudoku page, one large grid filling the sheet.
A sudoku, printed.

What the words mean

Most word searches give you a list of words and leave it at that. Ours are about something.

Every puzzle explores a real subject, from the deep ocean to the gardens of Kyoto to fashion at the Tudor court, and every word belongs there. Some will be familiar. Others may be new. That’s why each puzzle includes a glossary with a short explanation of every word, plus a pronunciation guide whenever it’s helpful.

So you don’t just find the words. You come away knowing a little more about them.

Example:

The Art Deco World

CLOCHE KLOHSH
A close-fitting, bell-shaped hat that framed the bobbed hairstyles of fashionable 1920s women.
MARQUETRY MAR-kuh-tree
Decorative imagery or patterns assembled from precisely cut pieces of contrasting veneer and set into furniture surfaces.
JADE
A polished green stone associated with Asian luxury and used in jewelry and finely crafted decorative objects.

No pressure, ever

Questions

Do I need to be good with computers?
No. There’s no password to remember. We email you a link when you want to sign in. The type is large everywhere, and nothing is hidden behind a menu.
Can I still print them?
Yes. Every puzzle has a printable version, one big puzzle to a page.
What if I only like one kind of puzzle?
That’s fine. Word searches and sudoku are separate.
What happens if I cancel?
You keep access until the end of the year you’ve paid for, and you’ll still get the free Sunday email afterwards for as long as you want it.
Can I try before joining?
Absolutely. Try the word search or the sudoku and see how it feels first.
